Induction of Chlorophyll Mutants in Common Bean under the Action of Chemical Mutagens Enu and Ems
نویسنده
چکیده
Effect of treatment with different concentrations of N-nitroso-N-ethyl urea (ENU) and etylmethan sulfonate (ЕМS) on seeds of Bulgarian common bean Dobroudjanski 7, Dobroudjanski 2, Plovdiv 10, Plovdiv 11М and snap bean Tcher Starozagorski varieties, for induction of chlorophyll mutants, was studied. It was established that investigated varieties manifested specifi c reactions to the treatment with ENU and EMS. Different mutation frequencies and width of mutation spectra were induced under the action of different concentrations of the two applied mutagens. ENU induced chlorophyll mutants with higher frequency in all studied varieties, in comparison to the action of EMS. Sixteen types of chlorophyll mutants were found, for all studied varieties, and mutagenic treatments. Mutant types chlorina (19,8%), xantha (19,3%), viridissima (15,4%) and chimerical leaves (9,1%) were with the highest frequency, comparing to the total number of observed mutants. Results were statistically elaborated by the Fisher’s method “φ”.

Quantitative comparison of genetic effects of ethylating agents on the basis of DNA adduct formation. Use of O6-ethylguanine as molecular dosimeter for extrapolation from cells in culture to the mouse.
DNA-adduct formation and induction of gene mutations were determined simultaneously after treatment with the four ethylating agents, ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS), ethylnitrosourea (ENU), diethyl sulfate (DES), and N-ethyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (ENNG). Both, in E. coli K-12 (NAL-resistance) and in V79 Chinese hamster cells in culture (HPRT-deficiency), the frequencies of mutation induction...

A comparison of the effectiveness and efficiency of gamma rays and ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) for inducing mutation in chilli seeds of 10 different doses along with one respective control. Seeds were treated with 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 kR of gamma rays and 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 mM of ethyl methanesulfonate. The M1 generation was produced from these mutagen treated seeds. Several unique and int...
متن کاملMechanistic influences for mutation induction curves after exposure to DNA-reactive carcinogens.
A mechanistic understanding of carcinogenic genotoxicity is necessary to determine consequences of chemical exposure on human populations and improve health risk assessments. Currently, linear dose-responses are assumed for DNA reactive compounds, ignoring cytoprotective processes that may limit permanent damage. To investigate the biological significance of low-dose exposures, human lymphoblas...
متن کاملEffect of Chemical Mutagen on Some Biochemical Properties of Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni
Induced mutagenesis causes an increase variation of some products with limited genetic resources. In this study, the antioxidant enzymes activity, biochemical properties and glycoside content of Stevia were assessed by EMS (chemical mutagen) based on two experiments as factorial with completely randomized design with three replications. The results of the first experiment showed that some prope...

Mutation induction is considered as an effective way to enrich plant genetic variation, particularly for traits with a very low level of genetic variation. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effect of different dosages of chemical mutagens on seed germination, seed viability and seedling growth characteristics and to identify optimum treatment conditions for chemical mutagens bas...
